More Local Bands

Your text goes hereCarnevil is one of those bands that stick out in my mind. If you like metal music at all this is the band for you. There are 5 members Chuck Boyer; vocalist, Mark El Hosri; lead guitarist, Nathaniel Payton Naymick; rhythm guitar, David E. Gibbons; bass, and Anthony E. Lupo; drummer. A lot of metal bands you can barely understand the words the lead singer says not in this case. They just had a chance to open for a national act at the Hard Rock Café in Orlando and I believe it was well deserved. From songs like “What You Did” to “Full Circle” this band will blow you away.
Another band that I am very fond of is Blue Collar Addict. This band consists of Danny Shaner; lead vocalist, Jonny Gravato; drummer, and Rob Solensky; guitar and Bryan Mills; bass. If you sre looking for a great stage presence to go along with some killer riffs and drumbeats then this is your band. From songs like “Bland” to “Changes” there is an edge to these guys that you have to see to believe. I have seen Carnevil and Blue Collar Addict share the stage a few times and I have to say it is one of my favorite things to watch. Theses two bands feed off the energy the other one brings to their performance.
Valiant Effort is a three piece band out of Jacksonville that consists of some of the most amazing talent I have ever seen. Shawn Fisher is lead vocals and guitar, Cody Fisher plays the drums and Matt Duncan is the bass player. From "Heartache" to their favorite song to play "Independence Day" they put everything they have into their performance to make sure you have a good time.
Infury8 is one of my favorites to watch play. This is a four piece band out of Edgewater. It consist of Kelly Alvarez; lead vocals, Dan Coffey; lead guitar and backing vocals, Steve Willey; bass and backing vocals, and Jermiah Carosella; drums. Songs like “My Place Is Gone” and “Go Peacefully” are so personal to them and the passion they play them with is uncanny. When this band is on stage they never want get off. They highly enjoy playing with each other and it shows by how much fun they are having. I have seen them a few times and enjoy it every time.
Sly Poonce is a four piece funk band from Jacksonville. If you like funk music this is your band. This band has four members Randall Roman; lead vocals and guitar, Al Taylor; bass player, keyboards and backing vocals, Brent Tenczar; guitar and Mark Balawender; drums. They love to play till it is almost closing time. They have a version of “Come Together” that impressed me the first time I heard it and still does to this day.
I know music has a special place in everyone’s life. There are some outstanding local bands out there with the most amazing talent. No matter what genre you listen to there is a local band for you somewhere. I can be having the worst day and walk into a venue that has local music and walk out in a better mood. All the songs I mentioned here in this article have a special place in my soul. To hear just your average every day guys write songs that can mean so much to some one just like them is extraordinary. So the next time you see your favorite local hangout hosting a local band or acoustic act and you aren’t sure if you want to check it out pop in there you never know what may touch you heart and what your ears might enjoy.

Some Local Acts

The first band I would like to tell you about is The Picture Show out of Jacksonville, Florida. This band has 4 members....Aaron Jesperson; vocals, Dan Stewart; guitars, Ryan Ito; bass and Brad Danniger; drums. It was almost a year ago to the night that I had seen this band the first time and don't understand why I haven't been going to Jacksonville to see them. They were just signed to 10 Spot records and it is well deserved. If you ever get the opportunity to check this band out please do it you will definitely not be disappointed in what you hear and see on stage. From songs like "It's Alright" to "Give In" you can't possibly go wrong in listening to their CD. You can keep up with everything going on with this band at www.myspace.com/thepictureshow.
The second band that stole my heart is Weszt from Central Florida. They don't like to pin point once particular place cause they play everywhere in the central Florida area. This band has four members....Weszt; lead vocals and rhythm guitars, Micheal Rizzo; lead guitar and backing vocals, Bobby Lane; bass and backing vocals and Micheal Pugh; drums. I can't say enough about this band. They have some of the most phenomenal talent that rivals the best of the mainstream world. From songs like "Burning Man" to "Hookah” this band will knock you backwards. The central Florida area should keep a close eye on this band because they are going to go further then anyone can imagine. You can see where they will be playing next at www.myspace.com/weszt.
The Nick Kratz Trio is blues at its best. If you are into blues music then make sure to check these guys out. The band consists of Nick Kratz; lead vocal and guitar, Lucas Corcoran; drums and Jamie Rasso; bass and backing vocals. With guitar riffs that remind me of Jonny Lang and B.B. King there is something definitely special about this blues band from Gainesville, Florida. From songs like “Novelty" to "Noise" they can touch the inner most part of your blues loving soul. You can keep in contact with this band at www.myspace.com/nickkratz.
Funkatron is a funk band from Gainesville, Florida. With the current lineup consisting of 5 members…Cooper Nolan; voice and synthesizer, Chris Storey; guitar, Jon Walter; bass, Ian Mcleod; drums and Grant Mcleod; percussion, you get a mix of funk and reggae that even George Clinton would be proud of. From songs like “That Funky Girl” to “How much Ya’ll Chicken” they really make you want to get up and dance. Keep an eye on these guys at www.myspace.com/funkatron3.
Splintered Soul is a rock/metal band out of Orlando, Florida. This trio consists of…Scott Kinnan; lead vocals and bass, Chris Russell; guitars and backing vocals and Josh Henry; drums. Their sound rivals some of the best 5 piece metal bands I have seen. From songs like “Chaos” to “Crow” your metal loving ears will not be disappointed. Keep up with this mind blowing trio at www.myspace.com/splinteredsoulmusic.
Being part of the local original music scene for over a year now has definitely had its ups and downs. I have seen bands come and go and some change for the better. Any way you look at it the central Florida area has the potential to be the next Seattle. If everyone out there would just find a local band that they can't get enough of and tell their friends about them we have the chance to make the industry pay attention to the bands we have all come to know and love. The next time you see places in your area hosting a local act go for it you never know what you might find.
