10 Best Songs by Otherwise Terrible Bands

September 15th 2006 07:56
There's nothing like making a simple list to fill an entry when you're lazy, and this list is a tribute to the lazy folk. Bands who, after producing one huge hit and ensuring financial security for the rest of eternity, decided to stop trying. Keep in mind, this is not yet another "one hit wonder" list. These are bands who actually continued to make music for years after a hit, but just weren't very good. Who can blame them? If I saw millions suddenly flow into my bank account, I would spend less time writing songs, and more time buying stuff I didn't need, just to spite others.I would wait for someone to save up for decades to buy something, and then buy it for myself instead. After all, the more things you can buy, the less important reputation, or for that matter friendship, seems.

1- Wild Thing - The Troggs
2- Wooly Bully - Sam the Sham and the Pharaohs
3- Golden Brown - The Stranglers
4- Whip It - Devo
5- Government Center - The Modern Lovers
6- Why Don't You Do It For Me - 22-20's
7- It's Electric - Diamond Head
8- Jesus Christ Pose - Soungarden
9- Starstruck - Rainbow
10-Summer In The City - Lovin' Spoonful
If a problem comes along, you must whip it!

So there you have it. Great songs , all of them, but I certainly wouldn't put a poster of any of these bands on my wall (except maybe Devo, to lighten the mood.) And yes, I know i left "My Sharona" out, but that song is in a league of it's own.

This list was created while listening to "Eleanor Put Your Boots On", by the over-rated but still quite good Franz Ferdinand.

I would have to disagree with #8. Personally, I think Soundgarden rocks. Chris Cornell was (and still continues to be) one of the best vocalists out there. Plus, I can't say enough about Thayil's skill. Didn't you like the "Superunknown" album?

...But I like Devo

Although I do agree - they are terrible. But really, that's why they're so damn good!

I think with Soundgarden my issue was more that they didn't make the most of their potential....but then again, i suppose that they do have a lot of fans, so they cant all be wrong...as for devo, yeah, everyone likes devo..
